TRI-CITIES, Wash. (AP) - The director of the big waste treatment plant project at the Hanford nuclear reservation says it's redoubling safety efforts because of an increase in construction accidents requiring medical attention.

The director of the vitrification plan, Ted Feigenbaum, told The Tri-City Herald most of the recent incident have been caused by complacency rather than a lack of correct safety procedures and equipment.

The project has 800 workers building the plant to turn radioactive waste into glass logs for long-term storage.
