Former Hanford employee files civil lawsuit

KENNEWICK, Wash. -- A former executive at the Hanford Vitrifcation plant filed a civil suit Monday in Benton County Superior Court. The attorney of Walter Tamosaitis says the civil lawsuit claims alleged civil conspiracy and intentional interference with a business relationship. The civil complaint is filed against Bechtel National, the contractor, and URS, the subcontractor.

Tamosaitis was dismissed from the research and technology plant at Hanford back in July. His attorney says he was fired for questioning safety at the plant, which he says was part of his job.

He now works in the basement at URS. He is still getting a pay check but he says it's not the work he should be doing.

Jack Sheridan with the Sheridan Law Firm said, "Every step of the way, everybody knew that what he was doing was protected activity and nobody did anything to lift a hand and stop them from pulling his badge and take him off site as though he had done something wrong, when all he did was raise questions."

The trial is expected to be in one year. We are working to get Bechtel's side of the story.
