Energy Northwest Halts Power Production at Columbia Generating Station

RICHLAND, Wash.- Energy Northwest has shut down the Columbia Generating Station, the state's only nuclear power plant.

A fire over the weekend destroyed a backup transformer, so the company has now shut down the plant to replace the transformer.

They'll also use the time to prepare new equipment for a planned refueling next month.

The plant shut down around 9:30 Monday morning.

Energy Northwest doesn't know how long the shutdown will last.
