AREVA Has Excellent Review from Nuclear Regulatory Commission
RICHLAND, Wash-- The Nuclear Regulatory Commission gave AREVA's Richland Site a safety report card Wednesday. They past all of the requirements.
The NRC had been inspecting different areas of the company from operational safety to radio-logical controls for the last two years.
No additional inspections beyond the standard program will be needed. AREVA is the leading U.S. producer of nuclear fuel supplied to utility companies across the nation.
They supply five percent of the electricity consumed in the United States from their Richland Site alone. The fuel is put on trucks and transported to nuclear reactors.
"Its really very thrilling we've worked for the past two years to continue improving. We had one past item of note from our prior review period from 2004 to 2006 in the area of fire safety and we've made improvements and there were no items to continue to follow in the NRC," said Chuck Perkins, AREVA Richland Site Manager
Perkins says passing this review will allow AREVA to focus on possible future expansions and new projects.
