PROSSER, Wash. -- The city of Prosser has declared a "state of civil emergency" due to severe winds and wind damage. They have activated their emergency response center. Gusts have been strong (40 MPH) and have caused significant damage.
A state of civil emergency allows the city to apply for federal reimbursment from extra time of resources used during the wind storm.
Until further notice, the intersection at Merlot Drive from Wine Country Road to the first driveway at the Chevron gas station is partially closed as crews clean debris.
The Prosser School District has announced there will be no after school activities or sports at Housel Middle School and all outdoor after school activities for the high school will be brought indoors.
