YAKIMA--Lower Valley families concerned about the safety of their well water got some answers today.
A hydrologist from the Department of Health was on hand in Toppenish to answer questions about how to make sure private wells are safe and learn who's responsible for keeping the drinking water clean.
"First you have to find out what's in your well," hydrologist Ginny Stern said. "Not every well is impacted and the first way to find that out is to test it, most people don't realize that if you own your own well, own your own house, you need to test the well yourself. No one else does that."
The Department of Health is holding another meeting Saturday night at the Carl Stevens Senior Center in Grandview from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
