YAKIMA--Many people not happy to see the state basketball tournaments ending, especially those in the hotel industry. All those players, cheerleaders and parents need a place to stay and that's great for local hotels.
One Yakima hotel we visited was sold out nearly every night during the tournaments. Business was struggling until basketball brought those numbers back up.
"We've probably been down approximately 5 percent before the tournaments came in," Audrey Rudorfer, Assistant General Manager of the Oxford Suites, said. "This was a big boost for us."
Rudorfer said the hotel has had trouble finding rooms for people without reservations.
Most of the other hotels she talked to were also sold out.
The next big event for Yakima hotels is a high school drill tournament at the end of the month.
