KENNEWICK, Wash-- Longer days and more sunshine are bringing many smiles, but they also pose a serious risk to drivers.
Officers are sending out a warning: the more sunlight, the longer kids tend to play outside. This significantly increases the risk of an accident.
In the past three weeks alone, six kids have been hit by cars, and officers say this is the time of year they see the most accidents.
"More people are outside," says officer Michelle Pitts of the Kennewick Police Department. "More kids want to be outside, they want to play. There's more vehicles out, more teenage drivers out. More after school stuff going on."
Officer Pitts is reminding parents to always supervise children. She says a good rule of thumb is if you see one kid, odds are there's another.
