KENNEWICK, Wash. -- Get out the peanuts and cracker jacks, it's baseball time. The defending state champs, the Kennewick Lions are already in full swing.
But the team returns only a handful of players from a squad that one the 3A State Title last year. But they do have flamethrower Tony Bryant, a pitcher getting interest from pro scouts who has already signed to play with the Oregon State Beavers next year.
Bryant looks forward to making another run at the state title.
He says, "Well, I'd love to go there again. We're a young team but we work hard every day so you never know. We might get there again, we'll see."
Head Coach A.J. Marquardt says, "It's something that they can use to help motivate themselves but it's also something they can't rest upon. Everybody is going to be coming after them, you know, state champions, but the game is hard enough in itself."
Kennewick starts their season Saturday against Lake Washington in a doubleheader. The first game starts at 1pm in Kennewick.
