The Luck of the Irish Comes to One Yakima Pub on St. Patrick's Day
YAKIMA, Wash. - For more than 26 years, one local Irish pub has celebrated St. Patrick's Day and this year will be one of many places honoring the luck of the Irish.
McGuire's Irish Pub brought out the green drinks and a traditional dinner Tuesday to once again commemorate the holiday locally.
Jeanne Dyke of McGuire's says for Irish pubs the event is one of the biggest days of the year.
"It's just in remembrance of things in the past," she said. "It is a time to get together and enjoy other people's company and have a few green beers and some Irish whiskey and lots of corned beef and cabbage."
The pub planned to start serving customers at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday and stay open early into Wednesday morning.
Dyke points out that in larger cities they take the celebration to another level not seen in Yakima which she wishes she could bring home.
"You know if you go like to Chicago, New York or places like that they celebrate way way big," she said. "They turn their rivers green, which I think would be so cool if we could turn the Yakima [River] green but I guess that will never happen."
