Pacific Steel & Recycling Opens New Terrace Heights Facility
TERRACE HEIGHTS--Yakima gets a new recycling plant.
Pacific Steel and Recycling celebrated the opening of their new location today. It's at 409 Butterfield Road in Terrace Heights.
Pacific Steel has been around since October 2000. Today, they officially left their old location on Front Street for a larger, nicer space in Terrace Heights.
Before it was just Pacific Steel. Now they're also accepting scrap metal and some other recyclables.
The current economy is taking a toll on both sides of their business, but their manager's confident it'll be a short-term struggle.
"The economic downturn's affected the prices on everything," Tim Orth, Manager, Pacific Steel & Recycling, said. "Our new steel sales are down, prices are down, the recycling side suffers as well, but it'll return. It'll come back."
Members of the Greater Yakima Chamber of Commerce expressed faith that Yakima will remain a bright spot nationwide, pointing to several other businesses that have either recently opened or are still in the works.
