YAKIMA, Wash-- A local preacher is trying to set an example with a 40-day fast. Pastor Tom Lawson will camp in a West Valley field until Easter.
The land is owned by West Valley Four Square Church, they plan to build a new church there eventually.
During Lawson's 40-day fast he's only drinking water. He still preaches on Sunday's. During the week he reads and conserves energy. He's using this time to reflect and pray.
"Our land needs healed right now, we're not doing so well in the economy and in other ways so we are praying for our community," said Lawson.
Lawson said he knows this extreme of fast is not for everyone. But, he also said people have been supportive, giving-up something themselves and following his journey online.
An intern stays with Lawson to film the experience and make sure Lawson's safe.
