Wild Win! Ams beat Everett 6-5 in Game One

Kennewick, WA - Despite two late third period goals, the Everett Silvertips were unable to hold off Tri-City in overtime dropping game one of the opening round of the 2009 WHL Playoffs, 6-5. Ryan White had two goals on the night, while Daniel Bartek had a three point night (1G, 2A). Tyler Maxwell and Dan Iwanski had a goal each on the night.

Tri-City leads the best of seven game series 1-0. Game two comes tomorrow, Saturday, night at 7:05 in Kennewick, WA. Everett heads back for game three at home this Wednesday March 25th at 7:05.

Dan Iwanski took advantage of an early 5 on 3 power play scoring Everett's first goal of the 2009 WHL Playoffs at 1:55. Penalties by Tri-City gave the Silvertips an early two man advantage, Iwanski scored after collecting a rebound in front off a Taylor Ellington shot giving Everett the quick 1-0 lead. Nearly three minutes later Ryan White scored his first career WHL Playoff goal, on the power play, at 4:56 to increase Everett's lead to 2-0. Daniel Bartek's stickhandling behind the net led to a great pass in front for White to go five-hole on Chet Pickard. Tri-City responded at 6:43 with Johnny Lazo putting home a rolling puck past Thomas Heemskerk to move the Americans within one. Everett led 11-10 in shots after 20 minutes of play.

Tri-City controlled the first half of the second period scoring two straight goals. Tyler Schmidt took advantage of a power play scoring on the one timer from Taylor Procyshen at 5:40 tying the game 2-2. Soon after Adam Hughesman deflected a Kruise Reddick shot past Heemskerk giving Tri-City their first lead of the game at 8:12. Hughesman added his second goal of the game after a Graham Potuer blocked shot rebounded back to Hugesman who then lifted the puck over Heemskerk giving Tri-City a 4-2 lead at 13:56. Tri-City outshot Everett 13-9 in the second period.

White scored his second goal of the night fluttering the puck over Pickard's shoulder to bring the score to 4-3. White's goal was scored at 5:47 with assists going to Bartek and Jesse Burt.After killing off two back to back penalties Everett couldn't keep Tri-City off the board. Lane Werbowski gave the Americans the 5-3 lead after going glove side at 16:47. Tyler Maxwell nine seconds later took the score to 5-4 after crashing the net and collecting a Shane Harper rebound. With 22 seconds left and an empty net Bartek forced the puck to the back of the net tying the game making the score 5-5 at 19:38 taking the game into overtime.

Justin Feser scored his first career WHL playoff goal at 11:13 of overtime to secure a win for Tri-City in game one of the best of seven series.
