Yakima Mayor Dave Edler said Monday city leaders' recent trip to Washington D.C. went "very well."
During the mayor's media briefing, he recapped the visit he made along with three of his fellow council members and other city staff. The group of leaders met with both of Washington's senators and Representative Doc Hastings.
Edler believes the meetings could result in more funding to decrease gang-related crime.
"One of the important pieces is some dollars that we can use in very specific areas to help us deal with our gang issues," he said. "Again, there are always hoops that you have to jump but that would be one of the things I would be most excited about."
The mayor also cautioned the city about the budget's impact on Fisher Park. He said the failure of Proposition 1 and the EMS levy forces them to consider taking away funding from the park.
