WEST RICHLAND, Wash-- The U.S. Postal Service, one of the oldest government departments, has been running into financial problems.
They're incorporating new technologies to try to get business moving. KNDU went to the West Richland Post Office and learned about innovations the Postal Service has made on their website.
Instead of going to the post office you can actually do almost everything online just go to usps.com. You can pay for postage, print it out and tape it to your package.
You can set up a pick-up time and leave it on your front porch or safe location and your mailman will pick it up.
"When you schedule a carrier pick-up it notifies your post office electronically the next morning that you actually have a package at your residence for your carrier to pick-up," said Heidi Evans, Postmaster for USPS.
Nationally the postal service has fallen on hard times because of the economy. Less people are mailing packages ... and they have more competition with FedEx and UPS.
Postmasters want to remind you that the post office has no hidden fees and their prices are lower than competitors.
