More Graffiti Reports in Kennewick

KENNEWICK, Wash-- This week Kennewick Police had four graffiti reports and more than 20 in the month of March.

Police say it's usually juveniles or middle school age kids using spray paint to mark gang signs. Thursday they struck two businesses on 1st and Auburn St. in downtown Kennewick and on W. 45th street police found that two males ages 15 and 16 marked a KID irrigation fixture and some properties in the whispering winds trailer park.

Police say they anticipate more graffiti vandalism during spring break and as the weather gets warmer.

"Based on the graffiti and that kind of stuff, we have documented, it's kids claiming to be in gangs or in our junior highs, some 6th graders. These are kids who might have an older brother or some are just kids who think it's cool and there's nothing to stop them from doing it," said Ofc. Michelle Pitts, KPD.

Police leave it up to the homeowner or business as to how they want to clean the graffiti up. They also have a work crew from the juvenile detention program that will also clean the graffiti up.
