Girl Scouts Learn Health, Fitness, Attitude and Hygiene
GRANDVIEW, Wash-- The Girl Scouts aren't just about good cookies. Friday night the Yakima Valley Girl Scouts held a fitness event in Grandview. It was one of two events where the girls learn about health, fitness, attitude and hygiene.
About half of the girls at Friday's event were new members. To start off everyone made pom-poms. Then the Grandview cheer squad showed the scouts new cheers. They talked to the girls about exercise and healthy eating. Then everyone tried some cheers.
Also on hand, off duty police officers. They talked self-defense and discussed stranger dangers.
Girls Scout Coordinator Lisa Tapia said it's all about building self-confidence.
"We strive to build girls of confidence, character and girls who are going to become young leaders in our communities," said Tapia.
If you missed out on Friday's event the scouts have plenty more on their calendar. Lisa will be having another fitness, health, attitude and hygiene event tomorrow evening at McClure Elementary in Yakima.
