WASHINGTON - Governor Chris Gregoire has asked to cut $9 billion from the states budget and lawmakers have finally released the Senate and House plans to do it.
According to a blog on the Secretary of States website, Communications Director David Ammons says the Senate democratic operating budget will come out Monday morning. Then the House democrats will respond with their own proposal on Tuesday morning.
Ammons says the senate plan will cut nearly a half-billion dollars from higher education and K through 12. He says to expect layoffs, salary freezes and state employees will likely have to pay more for health care coverage.
He did have some good news however. The Governor expected only about $1 billion in stimulus money which now looks to be more like $10 billion.
