KENNEWICK, Wash-- Members of the Nazarene Youth Group in Richland went 30 hours without food to help raise both awareness and money to fight hunger in South Africa.
Before the group ended their fast, they literally tried to pound out hunger by taking in donations to smash-up an old, donated car. It wasn't an easy 30 hours for the teens, but it was all in the spirit of helping others.
"30 hours in comparison to what some of the kids overseas goes through, some of them don't eat for weeks," says Jason Niebel, youth leader. "30 hours for us, that's nothing."
Niebel says the car pound alone brought in roughly $160. Overall, Niebel says the kids raised close to $1,400. The church says just $30 will help feed one child for a month.
