Driver Loses Control, Nearly Ends Up in Naches River
NACHES--A Yakima woman had quite a scare when she lost control of her car and almost ended up in the Naches River.
It happened around noon Sunday on State Route 410.
The driver said she was coughing and drifted into the eastbound lane. Then, she over-corrected and went off the road, finally stopping on the bank of the river.
A Washington State Patrolman tells KNDO she's lucky the river is low.
"The river this time of year is not too deep but it is very swift, especially in this area," Trooper Barry Pilkinton said. "It's pretty shallow and rocky in some of these areas so it would have to have gone at least ten more feet [into the river] to get into that deeper current."
