A new campaign is hitting the airwaves this week highlighting proposed state budget cuts. Which could also mean... A state sales tax increase.
Recently lawmakers have proposed big spending cuts in lots of areas of government to help bridge the 9 billion dollar shortfall through the year 2011.
Health care groups, are afraid the cuts will affect Health care programs, like the Basic Health Plan for those with lower incomes.
If lawmakers approve a state sales tax increase, Health care groups think the money might be earmarked for these types of programs.
The new campaign is expected to generate public support for a referendum this fall.
Voters may then be asked in November to raise the state sales tax by three-tenths or four-tenths of a percent.
