KENNEWICK, Wash- Tri-Cities Attorney Terry Tanner was sworn in to take the position formerly held by Eugene Pratt.

Tanner recently found an assignment from 8th grade where he wrote that ‘when I grow up I want to be a judge.' Monday that dream was full-filled.

Tanner, who has been a prosecutor for many years, will fill the shoes of long time Benton County District Court Judge Eugene Pratt.

At his ceremony were many of his friends, family, and Benton County Judges. He was sworn in by very good friend Benton County Superior Court Judge Cameron Mitchell.

Judge Tanner attended Pepperdine University and University of Washington Law School. His wife and their three children spoke with KNDU about his new job.

"I'm really proud of Terry, it's really incredible to watch somebody realize a dream and that's what he's doing and we are really proud of him," said Elizabeth Tanner, Terry's wife.

Tanner's first day on the Benton County District Court Bench is this Wednesday. He says he is looking forward to working with everyday people who sometimes end up with traffic tickets.
