YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) - An 18-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder and first-degree assault in a fatal shooting last year at Sunnyside, Wash.
Julian Williams was arraigned Friday in Yakima County Superior Court and is in jail on a $1 million bond. Williams was charged in the shooting death of 18-year-old Eric Vargas.
Police say Vargas and 17-year-old Antonio Carrasco Jr. were shot on Nov. 10, 2008, after throwing rocks and breaking the rear window of a car occupied by gang members in Sunnyside.
Police say someone got out of the car and opened fire, striking both Vargas and Carrasco. Vargas died later at Sunnyside Community Hospital.
A second suspect has been arrested in the case and is awaiting charges. Police say both suspects are known gang members.
