Spring Barrel Tasting Starts FridayPosted: Updated:
Visitors to Yakima Valley wineries this weekend will get a unique chance to see the latest releases and taste wine right out of the barrel, making for an unofficial start to wine season.
Two Mountain Winery in Zillah says they are one of the few places that will let you do white wine tasting out of the barrel. This weekend will be your only opportunity to taste any wine out of the barrel in wine country.
Matthew Rawn is one of the owners of Two Mountain Winery. He says Spring Barrel Tasting lets you lets you taste wine in an early and unfinished state.
"The barrel is going to be just one component of what you are going to get into a bottle of wine," he said. "The bottle is probably going to be a little more well rounded or more complex, the barrel is going to be relatively soft."
Many of the wineries will host special events this weekend as well. They have created new promotions this year to let you see more of the wine making process. Staff at Two Mountain Winery say these are some of the many activities happening during Spring Barrel Tasting you won't want to miss.
"It's a good chance to go and see a lot of wineries in their element," said Rawn. "They're going to taste the wines that you normally don't get to taste, maybe taste new releases that they're releasing just for that period of time and also they're going to have fun."Spring Barrel Tasting takes place at wineries across the Yakima Valley from April 24 - 26.
