Free Household Hazardous Waste Collection

KENNEWICK, Wash-- More than 300 people went to the Toyota Center Saturday not to watch a hockey game or a show, but to drop off waste.

Benton County Utility Services collected household hazardous waste and electronics for free. Some of the items collected were paint, oil, batteries, and pool chemicals.

The county's waste manager says doing this annually helps keep the waste from getting into our landfills.

"It's just so we don't contaminate our landfills with hazardous waste. It gets into our groundwater if it's dumped into the landfill," said Keith Martin, Benton County Waste Manager.

If you missed the collection Saturday, you can take your household waste or old electronics to the Richland landfill near Horn Rapids.
