Judge To Webster Jury: Keep Trying

Posted: Updated:
Pasco, WA- A Franklin County judge has told a jury a second time to continue deliberating, despite jurors saying they are deadlocked.

The jury is deliberating whether David Webster raped a cellmate inside the Franklin County Jail. Webster, acting as his own attorney, says the sex was consensual.

On Friday, jurors said they were close to being deadlocked, but Superior Court Judge Cameron Mitchell instructed the jury to return Monday for a third day of deliberations.

At noon today, Mitchell received a message from the jurors, saying they still had not made any progress.

Assistant attorney general Melanie Tratnik argued the jurors had been told the trial could last until the end of the month, and should continue to deliberate.

Judge Mitchell ordered the jury to reconvene after lunch and try again.
