CWU ROTC Receives National Honor,"First Gentleman" Presents Award
ELLENSBURG, Wash. - The Army ROTC program at Central Washington University will be honored Wednesday as the "most outstanding" battalion in the nation out of 277 programs by the husband of Washington's governor as well as others.
Mike Gregoire, Washington's "First Gentleman," will present the Order of the Founders and Patriots of America Award for Excellence Wednesday afternoon.
The Wildcat Battalion is made up of a number of students from the Yakima Valley. They will be joined by other military guest and university leaders. Mr. Gregoire is a Vietnam veteran and has spent most of his life working on veteran affairs.
The award ceremony begins at 4:00 p.m. at CWU. It will be held inside the Student Union and Recreation Center on the Ellensburg campus.
Governor Chris Gregoire signed a gubernatorial proclamation on behalf of the Wildcat Battalion last Friday.
