New Generation of Trees for Leslie Groves

Posted: Updated:
Richland, WA- The rainy weather today didn't stop volunteers from lending a hand and strong backs to help the City of Richland plant a new generation of shade trees.

To celebrate Arbor Day, Cougs In The Community planted 15 White Spire Birch trees in Leslie Groves Park adjacent to the boat launch off Saint Street.

Birches are a good choice for the area because they can tolerate hot summers, windy conditions, and White Spires don't seem to interest the common Birch Bore, which can devastate other types of birch trees.

The trees have a lifespan of about 30 years and will grow about 30-feet tall.
