Former Yakima Mayor Running For City Council

YAKIMA, Wash. - Former Yakima Mayor Mary Place announced Monday she is running for city council this fall.

She was joined by supporters Monday morning to announce her decision to seek one of the at-large positions.  Place will be running against Council Member Micah Cawley.

She says she had to leave office for family reasons otherwise she would have stayed on with the council.

"It's time for me to come back," she said.  "I am looking forward to it, I really care about our community.  The Renaissance has begun and government tales so much time to get anything done."

Place was elected to city council in 1997 and left four years ago.  She served two terms as mayor during her time on the council.
