Christopher Ruesga, 16, walked into court today in shackles, occasionally glancing into the gallery, where his family, and about two dozen family members and friends of the victim sat and watched.
Several sheriff's deputies and Pasco police officers also stood in the courtroom and throughout the courthouse.
Ruesga is being tried as an adult for second degree murder. His court-appointed attorney entered an innocent plea today.
Ruesga is accused of shooting 38-year-old Eutimio Martinez Vivero during a street fight between rival gang members.
Vivero's family says the man didn't belong to any gang.
Ruesga's friends say the teenager shot the man in self defense.
