Sessions at IT Day in Kennewick Geared Toward Hispanic Community
KENNEWICK, Wash.-- With a large numbers of Hispanics living in the Tri-Cities, Lockheed Martin staff say they're glad to make I.T. Day more inclusive.
The event has been around for nine years. This year, for the first time, there were two sessions for Hispanics.
One was held in Spanish and one in English. The speaker was Jose Pinero. He is the Director of Multicultural Marketing at Microsoft.
Pinero gave information about how Latinos can get more involved in jobs that are IT related.
"We want to attract more Hispanics into the IT and technology professions and that means we want Hispanics to have the best opportunities and to play a key role in designing products and services for the future," said Jose Pinero, Director of Multicultural Marketing at Microsoft.
Pinero says there's still a lot of work to be done to get more Latinos involved. Especially in Middle Schools and High Schools.
Some Latino college students from the Tri-Cities were in the crowd earlier. Pinero says Microsoft has several job shadow programs to get young students involved.
