Memorial Patients Honored for Participating in Nation-Wide Cancer Trial
YAKIMA, Wash.- Memorial Hospital marked an important anniversary locally in the fight against breast cancer.
Friday at the Red Lion Hotel, 55 women from our area were thanked for their part in a 10-year nation-wide clinical trial. Memorial's North Star Lodge had more participants than any other facility in the nation.
"We're in our fourth generation of cancer, I'm the third generation, I'm the only one of four sisters who has not had breast cancer," said Annis Ernest, a trial patient.
The trial called "Stars" is one of the largest breast cancer prevention studies ever. The study compared two drugs reducing the risk of invasive breast cancer by about 50 percent.
