YAKIMA--Mary and Hal Skinners weren't the only people honored Saturday. Fire, police and military personnel were also recognized Saturday.
Different fire and police departments set up at Mike Olson Dodge on South 1st Street in Yakima, part of a new event called "Salute to Heroes."
Soroptimists International of Yakima organized the event and hope it becomes an annual tradition.
"They fight our fires, they protect us in our homes, they're all here to help us," Soroptimists President Connie Johnston said. "It's a nice chance for everybody to come out and say thank you."
The Yakima Fire Department also offered free rides up in one of their ladder trucks.
