Teens With Air Soft Guns Mistaken For Real Guns

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash-- A scary moment for police when they got a report of what witnesses say looked like teens loading semi-automatic handguns in a car.

Officers caught up to the black S.U.V. and stopped it near Benham St. in Richland, that's when they found three teens with toy air soft guns.

They might be toys, but police say they look too much like the real thing and should never be shown in public.

"I don't think people realize how much danger they create when they handle a gun like this because we don't know if it's a real gun or an air soft gun. We're certainly not going to assume it's an air soft gun," said Sgt. Brian Swartswalter, Kennewick Police Department.

The teens were not arrested and the case has been sent to the Benton County Prosecutors Office for any possible charges.
