Student Release Salmon into Columbia River

KENNEWICK, Wash - The largest student salmon release in eastern Washington started today
at the east end boat launch  near the Playground of Dreams in Columbia Park.

Almost 4,000 students will attend by the time it's over Tuesday. 

Students are releasing salmon they raised in classroom tanks.

The Benton Conservation District and Franklin Conservation District have combined their "Salmon in the Classroom" programs, making this the only student salmon release event in the area.   

Students also tour learning stations throughout the park.. Covering topics like irrigation.. Wildlife. Hydroelectric dams and conservation.

The event continues tomorrow from 9am-1:30pm.
