Tri-Cities, Wash. - Parents who take advantage of the "GET" Program pay for their childs future college tuition at today's rate. But as tuition goes up, the rate for prepaid credit hours is rising as well.
The purchase per credit has gone up from $76.00 to $101.00. That's a little over $10,000 a year. The increase will also send more money to the program's reserves, to make sure the tuition plan remain stable long-term.
The GET Program is running a deficit of about 20% or $260,000. The state says the shortfall is tied to the recent collapse of financial markets.
