PASCO, Wash-- There's a new interactive CD-Rom designed to teach teenagers about destructive decisions, specifically before getting behind the wheel.
It's called 'Beat the Reaper.' It's a program that took the group 'People Learning About Destructive Decisions,' or PLADD, years to develop. On Wednesday, it was debuted at the Health and Safety Expo at TRAC in Pasco.
"The number one thing we're concerned about is the statistics that tell us year after year traffic crashes are the number one cause of teens' death in the country and that's unacceptable," says Lieutenant Jay Cabezuela of Washington State Patrol.
The group says this is the first CD-Rom of its kind. Already nine test sites throughout the state have been chosen to test the effectiveness of the program. PLADD hopes the c.d. will eventually be part of a teen driving class.
