Fire at Umatilla High School Sends Students Home for the Day
UMATILLA - A small fire breaks out at Umatilla High School in the science lab, forcing students to evacuate. Four girls did suffer minor chemical burns. Their parents have been notified.
Below is a letter from the Umatilla School District regarding the incident:
There was a small fire in one of the Science labs at Umatilla High School this morning. The smoke from the small fire set off their fire alarms and sprinklers. The students were not in danger during this time. The students were safely evacuated and the district administrators decided to end classes for the day.
School staff followed all emergency procedures in quickly evacuating students.
There will be no classes for the high school tomorrow, Friday, May 15. The maintenance staff will be working hard to clean up the water damage that was left as a result of this small fire.
The power was turned off; if parents are having a difficult time trying to communicate with the school they will not be able to get through.
