Day 2 of BASS Tournament Canceled Due to Wind

Posted: Updated:

RICHLAND, Wash. -- Citing strong winds and low water levels, organizers for the BASS Federation Nation Western Divisional cancelled Day 2 of fishing Thursday morning.

Tournament Director Jon Stewart said in five years on the job, he's only had to cancel four days of fishing. Stewart said the safety of the 132 anglers in the event comes before anything else.

"There's guys from Arizona... California that have never seen anything like the Columbia River", said Stewart. "We have guys in 17 foot boats all the way up to 22 foot boats, so you have to take all that into account".

There are bass fishermen from 11 different states competing. After Day 1, Washington was leading the team event.

The cancelled day of fishing will not be made up. The divisional becomes a two day event instead of a three day event.

The overall winner advances to the BASS Federation Nation Championship and a chance to compete in the Bassmaster Classic.
