Complaint Filed Against Former Richland Basketball Coach
RICHLAND, Wash-- A former Richland high basketball coach is under some heavy fire from four former players. On Friday, our newsroom got a copy of a complaint filed by four families.
The complaint alleges former basketball coach Bruce Robertson racially discriminated against four players. It also alleges emotional abuse and deprivation of civil rights.
Robertson was the coach for the Bombers from 2007 to just a few weeks back. At the time, it was reported he resigned over personal reasons. KNDU spoke with the legal representative for the four families. In total, they're seeking more than $7 million, claiming some of the girls missed out on collegiate offers. They say this isn't just a case of a tough coach, they say it goes deeper.
"The conduct we are complaining about in the complaint far exceeds any level of coaching, whether it's stern or strict coaching,"says Judy Endejan of Graham & Dunn.
KNDU also talk to a representative for the school. He says they haven't been served yet, and won't offer any further comment. KNDU also talked to the coach on the phone. He says he won't comment until the school does.
Endejan says there is no court schedule at this time. We do know if it goes to trial, it will likely be in a district in Spokane.
