YAKIMA--High school students and scuba divers team up to clean up.
The Yakima Dive Club works to clean up a small lake every year. Saturday it was Lake Myron off of Fruitvale Boulevard.
The Dive Club's been doing this for about 15 years now.
One diver told KNDO that when they first started, they filled several dumpsters with trash.
He says every little bit of garbage adds up.
"[People] see a cigarette butt here, a piece of plastic there, but when you stop and start picking it all up it becomes a garbage bag real quick," Dennis Sperry said. "It may not look like much, but there's a lot of stuff hidden in the trees and the bushes."
Today two large tires were pulled out of the lake.
Volunteers filled about one dumpster, a lot less than in years past. They say that's a sign that people are paying more attention to cleaning up after themselves.
