RICHLAND, Wash-- Some first graders went on a unique field trip. They got to meet senior citizens.
The students are from White Bluffs Elementary in Richland. They visited Riverton and Richland Gardens retirement homes.
The kids presented them with homemade quilts, May baskets, and brightened their day by singing songs.
The kids were really excited to go on a field trip and we talked a lot about making people happy and how that makes us internally happy and so that was kind of our goal," said Rhonda Simmelink, Teacher at White Bluffs.
The first graders have been learning about quilt squares and block towns. They made the quilts in a computer lab and on paper with the help of seamstresses, who sewed them together.
