Confusion Over WA Boating Laws

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash.--  There's some confusion over boating rules.  Many people have picked up a fishing pamphlet issued by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, and on page five, it says that anyone older than 12 must pass a boater education course.

The Washington State Parks Department put an ad in the pamphlet that some say is a little misleading.  Not everyone over 12 has to take the course, yet.  Right now, only people between 12 and 25 have to, but eventually everyone born after 1955 must pass.

The course is being phased in by age group.  If you want to find specifics out about the law and when you'll need to pass a course, head to http://parks.wa.gov/boating/boatered/?subject=faq.
