"Canstruction" hits the Columbia Center Mall

Posted: Updated:
Kennewick, WASH - If you were walking through the Columbia Center Mall Wednesday you probably saw a couple of nuclear cooling towers made entirely of cans.  Around four o'clock Wednesday morning teams for the fifth annual Canstruction event got to work.

In the event sponsored by Conagra Foods/Lamb Weston and CH2M HILL, 10 teams make structures all made out of donated canned foods.  The structures will be on display in the mall through May 29th before all 20,000 cans are donated to Second Harvest Tri-Cities.

"This community doesn't say no. They might not be able to support it 100 percent, but they do pieces of it and if you can make life better for your neighbor what is better to accomplish in a day?," explained Kathy Kilgore, Director of Second Harvest Tri-Cities.

The structures were judged Wednesday afternoon.  A special people's choice award will be decided by your vote.  You can pick which structure you think is the best at the Columbia Center Mall before the awards ceremony May 29th.
