Yakima Police Use DNA Evidence to Arrest Murder Suspect
YAKIMA, Wash. -- Yakima Police arrest a suspect from a homicide that happened in 1993. Police Chief Sam Granato says the Yakima Police Department was able to use DNA evidence to arrest 56-year-old Clayton Stafford.
Stafford is suspected of killing 21-year-old Shawna Yandell. Her body was found floating in the Yakima River about one mile north of Terrace Heights Drive back in 1993.
YPD Reopened the case in 2007, and requested a DNA sample. Today, a California DNA lab confirmed the evidence from the 1993 homicide matched that of Stafford. He was arrested this afternoon, he faces charges of 1st degree murder.
