YAKIMA, Wash-- Yakima Police arrest a suspect from a homicide that happened in 1993. Police Chief Sam Granato said the Yakima Police Department was able to use DNA evidence to arrest 56-year-old Clayton Stafford.
Stafford is suspected of killing 21-year-old Shawna Yandell. Her body was found floating in the Yakima River about one mile north of Terrace Heights Drive back in 1993. On June 13th a boy scout troop spotted the body.
YPD Reopened the case in 2007, and requested a DNA sample. Wednesday, a California DNA lab confirmed the evidence from the 1993 homicide matched that of Stafford. He was arrested this afternoon, he faces charges of 1st degree murder.
