RICHLAND, Wash-- The event center at Sunset Memorial Garden's opened just a year ago and there was a Memorial Day open house.
There will also be a Memorial Day service at 11 a.m. Monday to remember fallen soldiers. The gardens will have 900 American flags on display for the entire day. To get people in the spirit of the holiday there was a classic car show and concert with bagpipes.
The Desert Thistle Pipe Band even dressed in their kilts for the occasion. The general manager says celebrating holidays like Memorial Day gave them the idea to build the center.
"We are very excited about all the possibilities that this building is going to provide us so as families want something as far as a different venue for a service or just a different way to bring people out to the grounds we just want to have an opportunity for them to come out," said Mike Turner, Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Besides all the activities, many people took the opportunity to stop by the cemetery and lay flowers on graves.
The services are on Monday at Sunset Memorial Gardens on the 900 block of the Bypass highway in Richland.
