Police Give Safety Tips For Parents and Kids in the Park
KENNEWICK, Wash-- It was a beautiful day for a picnic in Columbia Park Saturday and as the weather gets better police want parents to remember to keep a close eye on their children while at the park.
Officer Tony Valdez from the Kennewick Police Department gave us some tips. He says first teach your kids to be mindful of strangers, make sure you go with them to the restroom, and always have them put their life jackets on if they go in the water.
"Most of the people that drown on Memorial Day weekend never intended to be in the water in the first place, so one thing we really stress if you are near water make sure if you can get them in a life jacket," said Valdez.
Another important tip is to re-apply sunscreen throughout the day and make sure your kids are drinking lots of water.
