2 Deaths and 17 DUI's in Yakima County Over Memorial Day Weekend
YAKIMA, Wash.- For the first time in four years, there was not one but two fatal accidents this weekend in Yakima County. Both deaths were related to drunk driving.
Washington State Troopers stayed busy between Yakima and Sunnyside, with a total of 17 drivers pulled over and cited with DUI's. The good news is, this number is lower than past years for Memorial Day weekend.
Troopers say most people driving drunk don't realize how drunk they are when they get behind the wheel.
"I think that was the case for these two individuals but they were drinking and it affected them and they paid the price," said Lt. Jim Keightley, a Washington State Trooper.
State Patrol officers in the Tri-Cities area say there have only been four DUI's so far this weekend. Troopers will continue looking for drunk drivers this evening.
They are reminding everyone to drive safely, be cautious of other drivers, and to call a designated driver if you or someone you know has been drinking.
