RICHLAND, Wash - Going to Safeco Field has become a rite of passage for the Bomber baseball team. This weekend at Safeco, the Bombers are chasing their third state title in the last five years. They face Newport Friday in the semfinal game. With a team batting average of .402 and a team ERA of 1.58, no wonder they are 22-2. Their third straight trip to Safeco is well deserved. "Definitely the payoff for their whole season and the payoff for their whole careers really, being able to go to Safeco," said Ben Jacobs. "Win or lose it's just an unbelievable experience, but definitely want to win." "We like to play baseball and we love it.," said catcher Josh Rapacz. "We all love to play and that's why we win so much because we all love being out here and we want to win. It's our goal." "This whole senior class, what we've done over here at Richland, has been awesome and just one more championship would be even better," said sr. SS Brett Jacobs. WIth his son graduating and playing at WSU next year, Ben Jacobs says there's a "fifty-fifty chance" he'll retire after this year. He's had the job for 21 seasons.
